Vegan doughnuts. It’s a thing!

Who doesn’t love a doughnut or two? When i lived abroad in Sydney my favorite place to go to after work (in the QVB) was Doughnut time. I had a loyalty card.

There was such an array of doughnuts to choose from my favorite was ‘love at first bite’ which is there signature filled doughnut, dusted with sugar.

When in Sydney. You must pay these places a visit. Don’t watch the calories

Kürtősh

Kürtősh (from the Hungarian Kürtőskalács) is the name for a chimney cake – a pastry made from dough applied to a spit and rotated on an open fire or rotisserie-style oven. Just choose how much you want to eat and pay by weight. This applies to all food in the store but if you’re doughnut-crazed then the eponymous treat will suffice.

Where: Kürtősh House No. 1, 20B-20C St Pauls Street, Randwick

Grumpy Donuts

Despite the curmudgeonly name, Grumpy Donuts make you anything but grumpy. These doughnuts are little round works of art: simple, minimalist and with the perfect ratio of doughnut to icing. And each is named with exactly what it is: Oreo Vanilla, Choc Chip Cookie Dough, Maple Brown Sugar, etc.

Where: Grumpy Donuts, 72 Bridge Road, Camperdown

Brewtown

Okay, technically what Brewtown serves up is only half doughnut – it’s also half croissant – but it’s all delicious. Queuing up for Brewtown’s famous flaky cronuts is the norm, as is arriving at 3pm and walking out immediately, deflated because they’ve run out.

Flavours range from the expected cinnamon, jam-filled and glazed to the more adventurous lamington and chocolate custard. Try any of them – they’re all good.

Where: Brewtown Newtown, 6–8 O’Connell St, Newtown
