Cost of existing crisis: How I'm preparing
Here is a quick read on what I’m doing to save some money during this financial crisis.
Now we all love nice things, but we all know most nice things are not cheap. But I thought It would be helpful to share with you all how I am cutting back costs and expenses.
To do this, it is important to establish the definitions of these two words:
Need-circumstances in which something is necessary; necessity.
Want-have a desire to possess or do (something); wish for.
If you are doing this adulting thing you’ll know that even breathing cost money these days lol.
I would love to eat out endlessly, get my nails and lashes done every 2 weeks, plus splurge on some new items from ASOS, but as we know we have to move a little bit smarter. Inflation is increasing and so is the cost of existing. Boo!
But as we know we have to move a little bit smarter. Inflation is increasing and so is the cost of existing
If you have no passive Income you could find yourself in a right pickle if you are not careful. So here are a few things I’m doing to keep costs down for now.
Beauty Changes
Hair - Yes, I’ve been doing my own hair for a couple of years now and it has saved me heaps of money. The money that i would’ve spent getting a sew ins I put towards getting good quality products that my hair likes and agrees with.
When the time comes I will revamp those old bundles and restore them to their former glory.
Skin - Skincare is something i don’t want to compromise at this stage in my life so i will be sticking to my Clinique 3-step which lasts longer than high street brands fyi.
Nails - I’ll be replacing my nail trip visits with DIY nails. Yes, you won’t get the nail shop finish but you’ve saved £65 including feet.
Russian volume Lashes - This one makes me very sad. I love my lashes! Shout out to my Lash Lady who is absolutely incredible, but during this time even though it’s something that i could budget for i have decided to go back to strips for the time being. Making a saving of £55.
saving total: £120
Lifestyle Changes
Eating out with friends - Birthday’s, Christmas dinners, work drinks the lot. I honestly feel that winter is the most expensive season of the year. All of my friends birthday’s including my own have been crammed into this season. What has really helped me is budgeting to go out. Set yourself some money aside (disposable) that you can socialise with friends.
or you could just say no. It does not have to be at a Michelin star restaurant but if it is here are some apps to help:
The Folk: Use my code: 803D171B for £20 off your next booking
First Table: Use my code: yasj01 for 50% of your bookings
I do think maintaining relationships is key. People make time for what they care about.
Takeaway’s- Whoever said making your own food from scratch is cheaper lied. I don’t think this is true, especially if you eat healthily and not shit food; and I love me some junk occasionally, but I have tried to limit my takeout budget to twice a month. If I spend £20 on a good quality Caribbean or Turkish takeout the left overs will at least last me for 2 maybe 3 days.
That works out to be just over £6.65 per day! Cha-ching!
Night outs- Despite loving my hermit lifestyle, a bat needs to come out of it’s cave occasionally and have enjoyment lol.
I will be putting £100 aside for those random nights out.
All of the above I can easily live without or keep to a minimum without diminishing my quality of life. Remember, that It Is good practice to cut back once in a while to revaluate where your money Is going.
Petrol- A little hack that i have found helpful and helps me manage the costs of commuting from Kent to london. I have the Shell app which enables me to pay in 4 for a full tank of petrol! You are welcome!
Good luck!
