101 for make up wearers

  1. WASH THE MAKEUP OFF YOUR FACE BEFORE YOU GO TO SLEEP!

I really cringe when makeup wearers tell me they go to sleep with a full face of make up, each to their own but I think it’s gross. To me it’s like sleeping with your outside clothes on in bed…but each to their own.

Now that you are washing your skin every night, lets implement a routine that is simple and good for the skin.

Elemis Cleansing Balm-In my opinion the holy grail when it comes to removing makeup and impurities from the skin. A small pea size amount rubbed into your palms and then unto your face is so satisfying, makeup and the days inpurites are dissolved then can be easily wiped away with a warm flannel. Your face will be the cleanest and freshest. Thank me later!

It is quite pricey, but a little goes a long way…I am yet to find a dupe that is as good as this, but it’s defietley worth every penny and it lasts for ages.

As someone who has experience in working in premium skincare, i’ve benefited trying the most luxurious brands. It’s important to note that premium does not always equate good for you. There are some really good hughstreet products that are just as good if not even better than some of your more expensive brands.

so instead of me recommending you products or brands to try here are some of the ingredients you should look out for when choosing your face wash, toner and moisturiser. Please bear in mind I am no dermatologist, all of these recommendations are from personal experience and research.

Oily Skin

look for products that contain..

SQUALANE

Like hyaluronic acid, squalane helps to improve skin’s moisture levels – it’s very effective at sealing in hydration and preventing it from escaping. Although squalane can have an oil-like texture, it isn’t actually an oil. Commonly derived from olives, squalane replicates the natural moisturisers within our own skin so it’s non-comedogenic and won’t clog pores or cause any irritation.

NIACINAMIDE

(aka nicotinamide) is a water-soluble form of vitamin B3. And, for those of you with skin too sensitive for vitamin C or retinol, niacinamide could hold all the answers.

SALICYLIC ACID

Known for its skin purification and exfoliation properties, Salicylic Acid is a type of BHA you can use if you have acne-prone combination skin. As an added plus, this BHA can help you get rid of dark spots and acne scars and give you an even complexion.

RETINOL

Also known as vitamin A, retinol increases cell turnover and boosts collagen production. It’s most commonly known as an anti-aging ingredient, but since it stimulates cell turnover in the lower layers of skin it also reduces the overproduction of sebum. This prevents the key symptoms of oily skin and prevents pore clogging, so is also considered an effective anti-breakout ingredient.

Combination Skin

HYALURONIC ACID

Hyaluronic Acid is simply perfect for combination skin! Its primary role is to hydrate and moisturize, and its light texture makes it suitable for all skin types.

VITIMIN C

Due to its antioxidative features, Vitamin C is an excellent cosmetic ingredient for combined skin. As an additional plus, it will also speed up the healing of acne scars and brighten up your complexion.

Dry Skin

GLYCERIN

Glycerin is also a commonly used ingredient within other products, which helps skin to retain moisture better. It’s found naturally within the upper layer of the skin so it’s safe and beneficial for all skin types and concerns. Studies have shown that higher glycerin levels correlate with skin hydration levels.

VITAMIN E

An anti-inflammatory and an antioxidant, vitamin E is found in our sebum (the oil our skin produces). As dry skin lacks this oil, it’s important to add extra vitamin E (also known as tocopherol) into your routine – either as an ingredient within your skincare products or as a dietary supplement. It also helps to soothe and reduce sensitivity.

Let me know if this has helped anyone!
