Greece. The Dream.
I stayed in a small town called Nea Makri. Beautiful weather and people. The sea breeze and stunning sunset is a perfect touch for a romantic getaway or girls trip.
I went with Oak Hall expeditions. Oak hall is a Christian organisation that put together travel excursions for Christians.
You have the option to travel alone with them or with a friend. I traveled alone with a group, but I felt extremely safe. I made new friends along the journey.
Nea Makri is a small town located on the east coast of Attica and belonging to the municipality of Marathon. With its long, sandy beach and the numerous cafes, bars, and restaurants found along the beach’s length, it makes a great destination for a day trip from Athens.
What really stood out to me was the quality of the food. The food in Greece is amazing! The fresh taste, homemade chips…I’m salivating just thinking about it.
however, if you do want a quick bite from your local McDonald’s. Forget it. There is not a McDonald’s in site or not where i stayed.
In total I stayed for 5 days and 4 night. I had a great time trying the food, and exploring the history and the culture of this great country.
So here goes! Here are some of the things that you should consider doing if you are thinking of visiting Greece, Athens
1. A tour of the street art
Street art is abundant in Athens and you don’t need to search hard to find interesting pieces. Keep your eyes open, look up, look down, and on the sides. Monastiraki area is a good place to start and if you like to venture further out, try the old airport grounds.
2. A self made tour of all the historical sites
No visit to Athens is complete with visiting the major historical sites: the Acropolis, the Roman Agora, the Greek Agora, and the Temple of Zeus.
3. Visit Cape Sounion/Temple of Poseidon
Cape Sounino a popular day-excursion for tourists from Athens, with the sunset over the Aegean Sea, as viewed from the ruins, a sought-after sight since the first development of modern tourism in the early 19th century
